HEART HEALTH:
Natural Pathway for Healthy Cholesterol Levels

When Dan Jones (real name changed to protect privacy) went in for a free cholesterol screening at his local hospital, he got a rude awakening. In his late forties, his cholesterol was measured at 260 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl), a level definitely higher than desirable. High enough, in fact, to put him at a moderate to high risk for heart disease, according to guidelines issued by the American Heart Association. The first thing Dan did was get serious about his diet and cut out fat and carbohydrate-rich foods from his daily diet. Lunch time burgers and fries became a memory. Three or more times a week, he substituted non-meat dishes for dinner, and he limited his intake of hidden fats from butter, cream sauces, and vegetable oils. Desserts and snacks consisted of fruits and vegetables.

Good News, Naturally He also began using Cholest-Less™ and Pressure Control™, two nutritional supplements from Whitewing Labs, known for reducing cholesterol and helping people achieve overall improvements in cholesterol and blood pressure.

Two months later, when Dan returned for another screening, his cholesterol had gone down to about 200 mg/dl, a significant reduction.

Dan's experience makes a strong case for the value of dietary modification and nutritional supplements.

A combination of diet, exercise and nutritional supplements is the key to lowering cholesterol and high blood pressure without drugs, and should be the first strategy for anyone truly intent on reducing their overall cholesterol count.

Dietary Tips
Beans are an often overlooked food when it comes to improving cholesterol. From black beans, chickpeas, and lentils to navy beans, pinto beans and even baked beans, this food can markedly help reduce cholesterol levels. Beans can help to reduce harmful low-density lipoproteins (LDLs) while also helping to increase beneficial high-density lipoproteins (HDLs).

Another wonderful cholesterol-lowering food is garlic. For those who find that garlic's taste is either too pungent or that its odor is offensive, garlic can also be effective when taken as a supplement in the Cholest-Less formula.

Raw onion is excellent for boosting HDLs. Cardiologist Victor Gurewich of the Harvard Medical School notes that about half a raw onion a day has been shown to boost HDLs by as much as 30 percent. Onions lose their HDL-boosting punch the more they are cooked so they should be eaten raw whenever possible (e.g., in sandwiches or salads).

Rich in circulation-enhancing omega-3 fatty acids, salmon provides a significant boost for HDLs. Other fish that are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids and believed to have similar effects on HDLs include sardines, mackerel, and tuna. When purchasing them canned, be sure they are packed in water rather than oil.

Foods rich in soluble fiber, such as apples, bananas, citrus, carrots, barley, oats, and rice bran, are also effective for lowering cholesterol. Soluble fibers lower cholesterol by binding the cholesterol-laden bile acids in the gut, thus promoting their elimination in the stool.

It is also important to eat plenty of vitamin C-rich foods such as strawberries, tangerines, oranges, red peppers, guavas, and cantaloupe. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that not only protects the body's levels of HDLs, it guards against free radical attacks on LDLs.

Nutritional Supplements
Taking quality nutritional supplements should also be part of your war against cholesterol. Cholest-Less is an excellent source of niacin. Also known as vitamin B-3 or nicotinic acid, niacin alone may lower cholesterol by up to 18%. An expert panel of the National Cholesterol Education Program notes, "Niacin is clearly the most potent pharmacologic agent available for increasing HDL levels, assuming that lifestyle modifications have failed to provide a sufficient increase."

Chromium stimulates the body's production of glucose tolerance factor (GTF), and significantly raises HDLs. Meanwhile, Pressure Control contains hawthorn berry. The renowned Swiss nutritionist and naturopath Alfred Vogel , authored of The Nature Doctor, says "Hawthorn (Crataegus) is a heart remedy, and is particularly valuable in cases of weak heart muscles. When arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure and especially, a hardened and constricted coronary are diagnosed, there is no doubt that Crataegus (Hawthorn) is the best, the most harmless and most reliable remedy that can be taken."

The experiences of our clients with diet, regular exercise, and nutritional supplementation demonstrate that the right foods and right supplements, such as Cholest-Less and Pressure Control, can make all the difference in the world.
