Just for MEN: Nutrition Update

Supporting Male Masculinity in a Sea of Estrogens

Call him Jake. He is a healthy middle-aged male. Or is he? He probably exercises three to four times a week. He is certainly interested in maintaining lifelong sexual potency and virility.

So when it comes to his health, he wants to do everything right. He purchases only the leanest cuts of choice beef. He eats plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. It all seems so right.

But it isn't. Jake is dosing himself daily with chemicals that mimic the effects of the female hormone estrogen, and, like most men, he hasn't a clue. The results may well be catatrosphic.

Sea of Estrogens
In fact, it is men's exposure on a daily basis—and the exposure of their male progeny—to a sea of estrogenic chemicals that act much like female hormones. Unleashed into the environment since the post-World War II petrochemical revolution, this may well underlie some of the most disturbing trends affecting men's health, including increasing incidences of testicular cancer, undescended testicles, congenital abnormalities of the urinary tract, prostate cancer, falling sperm counts, prostate enlargement and malignant cell growth.

In short, the world of men is being feminized as a result of such chemicals being sprayed on agricultural crops, release into our food, water and air by industry, and even finding their way into consumer goods. Examples of such chemicals are DDE, dicofol and methoxychlor, all commonly used or once commonly used pesticides.

Telltale Signs
The first signs that something is terribly wrong in the world of masculinity are coming from the natural world.

In Southern California, male gulls have ignored breeding colonies, while pairs of female gulls have tried to nest together, as if one were a male. There appears to be a correlation between the amounts of pollutants in their bodies and the degree of unusual sexual behavior, says Dr. Michael Fry, a wildlife research physiologist at the University of California at Davis.

In Lake Apopka, the fourth largest freshwater body in Florida, some 80 to 95 percent of the alligator eggs in nests now fail to hatch. Subsequently, of those few eggs that do, researchers have observed that the penises of the male juvenile gators were only one quarter the normal size. Furthermore, others had sexual organs that looked like ovaries. Levels of testosterone in infant and juvenile male alligators were so low, they were probably sterile.

On the shores of Lake Apopka, the estrogeniclike pesticide dicofol was manufactured for years and was spilled into its waters.

Prostsafe and Prostsafe Plus offer a comprehensive approach to prostate health, fighting both benign and malignant tissue damage.

What Men Must Do
It is critical for such chemicals to be screened before they are released into the environment. But doing so has only begun and will take years, if not decades. Fortunately, both Prostsafe® and Prostsafe® Plus from Whitewing Labs can help men to defend themselves against this sea of estrogenic chemicals.

Most men take Prostsafe or Prostsafe Plus to support prostate health, not knowing that several of the key ingredients in these formulas, such as saw palmetto berry concentrate, also dampen the masculinity-damaging effects of environmental estrogens.

Saw Palmetto is thought to influence the process of prostate enlargement in two ways. Not only does it inhibit the conversion of testosterone to the more dangerous hormone, dihydrotestosterone, which causes prostate enlargement; it is also believed to have a potent antiestrogen effect, according to a 1993 report in the French Journal of Urology. Not surprisingly, estrogenic exposures are thought to increase risk for prostate problems by causing the body to produce more DHT.

Pygeum africanum has been combined with saw palmetto in the Prostsafe Plus formula, which is "supercharged" for the most challenging prostate health problems. Pygeum, like saw palmetto, is thought to have potent antiestrogenic effect.

Combined with zinc, selenium and vitamin E, both Prostsafe and Prostsafe Plus not only do a super job of supporting prostate health, they also offer super protection against the feminizing effects of estrogenic chemicals. Call it a dose of manhood in a bottle.

Prostsafe:

Prostsafe Plus:
    Men's Extra Protection
  • Consume organic produce, since it is lower in pesticides with potential estrogenic effects.
  • Avoid fish from inland waterways where contamination with estrogenic pesticides and industrial chemicals are prevalent.
  • Prefer meat products from animals grown without growth-stimulating hormones.
