I
t has been said there is nothing good
about sugar.  No truer words have been
spoken, especially during the holiday
season when so many of us will sit down to
the rich meals and sugary desserts that are
so much a part of the Thanksgiving and
Christmas season.
This holiday season, many people will
not be able to withstand the sugar
temptation.  Indeed, too many of us crave
sugar and find ourselves getting irritable if
we haven’t had our sugar “fix” for several
hours.  Sugar is very much like a drug.  Many
people feel better after they eat sugar.  They
lose their nervousness.  Their headaches
disappear.
If this characterizes you, you are
probably suffering from sugar intolerance.
You’re hooked on sugar!
This holiday season, if you don’t control
your sugar cravings, you could end up
gaining 10 or 20 pounds.  Unfortunately,
excess sugar consumption also has been
linked with premature aging, Type II
diabetes, increased risk of some cancers,
tooth decay, weight gain, yeast infection, and
many other of our most common maladies.
What you need is a nutritional supplement
such as Circ Elation.
Fighting Sugar Addiction
B
ut if you want to get off the sugar
yo-yo syndrome, shed weight, enjoy
greater energy than ever before and
think more clearly, then you should
supplement your diet with nutrients and
herbs that help the body to properly
metabolize sugar and carbohydrates.
When our patients have been shown to
be hooked on sugar and have carbohydrate
intolerance, we like them to start using a
very special formula:  Circ Elation, a
dietary supplement from Whitewing Labs
that helps the body to properly metabolize
carbohydrates.
Let’s look more closely at some of the
ingredients in Circ Elation.
Niacinamideis a special form of
niacin.  Exciting new evidence from a large-
scale study conducted inNew Zealand
suggests that this nutrient can help to
prevent the development of type II
diabetes.  This study
shows us that
niacinamide, a
member of the B
complex family,
supports pancreatic
function.
The mineral
vanadium is named
for the Scandinavian
goddess of beauty,
youth, and luster.  For persons with sugar
intolerance, the beauty of vanadium (as
vanadyl sulfate) is that it has an insulin-like
effect, reducing blood sugar levels.  Human
studies show that this is a very important
micronutrient for establishing a healthy
response to sugar consumption.
Magnesiumis also helpful for persons
suffering from disturbed blood sugar levels.
According to Drs.Melvyn Werbach and
Michael Murray, fenugreekseeds “may be
effective in improving glucose tolerance.”
In one experimental study from the
European Journal of Clinical Nutrition
(1990;44[4]:301-306), the addition of
fenugreek seed significantly reduced fasting
blood sugar and improved glucose tolerance
tests. There was also a 54 percent reduction
in 24-hour urinary glucose excretion.  In
another study from the same journal
(1988;42[1]:51-54), the addition of
powdered fenugreek seed markedly lowered
post-meal glucose levels in patients with
Type II diabetes, indicating much better
sugar metabolism.  This unheralded herb is
very important for anyone with
carbohydrate intolerance.
Bilberryis indicated for persons with
carbohydrate intolerance.  Studies show that
use of bilberry reduces the tendency for
persons to suffer from small micro-
hemorrhages of the type common to
diabetics.
Ginsengmay help control the blood
sugar surge that generally occurs after
eating, according to a study in the April 10,
2000 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.
Researchers tested the effects of ginseng on
10 non-diabetic adults and nine adults with
Type II diabetes, the type that occurs usually
among adults when the body develops a
resistance to insulin, the hormone that
regulates blood sugar levels.
On four occasions, each person in the
study either took ginseng 40 minutes before
a meal or during the meal, or a placebo pill.
After eating, blood sugar levels were
measured every 15 to 30 minutes for up to
two hours.  In people without diabetes,
ginseng only lowered blood sugar levels
when taken 40 minutes before the meal.
Diabetics experienced a significant
reduction (20 percent) in blood glucose two
hours after treatments, regardless if they
took the herb before or during the meal.
