M
edicine’s understanding of what
causes heart attacks is undergoing
a rewrite.  Put simply, large
blockages are to blame for only about 15
percent of all heart attacks.
Instead, it’s the far more numerous small
blockages that matter most . . .what heart
doctors call “vulnerable plaque.”
We call it vulnerablebecause of its
tendency to burst.  Indeed, breaking plaque
inside arteries is the single most common
lethal event of the industrialized world.
“The rupture of plaque will be the cause
of death of about half of all of us in the
United States,” says Dr. Steven Nissen of
the Cleveland Clinic. “Understanding why
they rupture is the most important question
today in cardiology.”
Countering Vulnerable Plaque
U
nderstanding the causes of
vulnerable plaque opens up new
strategies to support circulatory
health.  One major key is controlling your
cholesterol.  According to the Journal of the
American Medical Association, in studies
involving more than 360,000 people, those
at lowest risk for heart disease were non-
smokers with cholesterol levels below 200
and blood pressure no higher than 120/80.
These people had a life expectancy that was six
to ten years longer than people at greater risk.
Reducing the amount of damaged (or
oxidized) cholesterol is the key to
preventing vulnerable plaque.  Damaged
cholesterol forms large areas of plaque that
can break off and cause clots that lead to a
heart attack.  Oxidation occurs when
unstable, highly reactive molecules in the
body, called free radicals, attack the
vulnerable low density lipoprotein levels
(LDL, the “bad” cholesterol, which, in turn,
increases the occurance of plaque).
Natural Cholesterol Busters
I
n their quest for a safer solution,
European experts have identified select
phytochemicals and nutrients believed to
help lower cholesterol; to help improve the
balance between good and bad cholesterol;
and function as antioxidants to reduce
damaged cholesterol that clogs arteries.
Pantethine, a key ingredient in the
Cholest-Lessformula,is the biologically
active form of pantothenic acid (vitamin
B).  It is utilized by key enzymes involved in
5
the transport and breakdown of triglyceride
fatty acids and cholesterol.  It also helps to
prevent oxidation of cholesterol, thereby
aiding the body in keeping the arteries
plaque-free.
Pantethine was evaluated
within a double-blind study with
29 patients, producing a drop of
almost 14 percent in total
cholesterol and LDLs.  In the same
patients, beneficial high density
lipoprotein (HDL, the “good”
cholesterol) levels increased 10
percent at the end of the study.  Plasma
triglyceride levels were also reduced around
30 percent.  This study provided evidence
for a significant cholesterol-lowering effect
from “a natural compound free of overt
side effects.”
Cholest-Lessalso joins together oats,
guar gum
and psyllium,a particularly
powerful combination for the absorption
and elimination of cholestrol from the body
before it can enter the bloodstream and clog
up the arteries.
Niacin, chromium, and vitamins C
and E
are also extremely important
ingredients in Cholest-Less, both for
reducing cholesterol levels and preventing
damaged cholesterol from accumulating on
the inner linings of the arteries.
Magnesiumand calcium, two valuable
minerals in the Cholest-Lessformula, are a
must at keeping blood flow healthy.  The
myocardium, the muscular substance of the
heart, is highly sensitive to shortages of
magnesium.  Magnesium relaxes and widens
vessels for relaxed blood flow.  Calcium
deficiencies can also be a cause of high
blood pressure.
The Doctor’s Recommendation
B
e sure to adhere to the following
guidelines for reducing your risk of
falling prey to vulnerable plaque:
uReduce your intake of saturated fat and
possibly salt.
uExercise at least half an hour daily.
uMaintain a healthy weight.
uTake Cholest-Lessfrom Whitewing

The Most Lethal Event in America
Is Taking Place in Your Arteries
The statistics are sobering:  More than 500,000 men and women die annually as a
result of heart disease and related complications.  More than one million heart
attacks occur annually, two-thirds among men.  Six of ten men who suffer heart
attacks do not survive them.  All too often, women fare no better and may even
receive lower quality care than men.  Whitewing Labs’ advisory panel of medical
doctors and natural health experts discuss how to reduce your risk of falling victim
to the single most deadly event in America today and the benefits of using a
natural supplement like Cholest-Less
from Whitewing Labs.
