Get a Grip
by L. Stephen Coles, M.D., Ph.D.
A
firm handshake may make a good first impression, but its real importance might not be felt
for years. A study found that middle-aged men with strong grips are less likely to develop
disabilities in old age.
Natural Health Tip: Be sure to exercise daily. For
occasional aches and pains that you might suffer, use Arthrivive® and Arthrivive®

Seniors Lack Good Nutrition
The generation that raised its
kids on the four basic food groups may be lacking some of the basics of good nutrition:
vitamins, minerals and water, reports Associated Press.
A group of nutritionists at Tufts University is recommending that
healthy people 70 years and older drink more water, eat foods that are more rich in
nutrients, increase the amount of fiber in their diets and increase the amount of exercise
in their daily routine. Lastly, the new food pyramid is topped with a flag suggesting that
some might need supplements of calcium and vitamins D and B-12.
The new recommendations, published in the March issue of The Journal
of Nutrition, are aimed at helping seniors live healthier lives while slowing the
onset of medical problems associated with aging, including heart disease, osteoporosis and
hypertension.
Natural Health Tip: Fortified cereals and orange juice
with extra calcium, as well as Vitamin and Mineral System from
Whitewing Labs (with more than 30 key nutrients including those seniors are most likely to
be missing) will help compensate for deficiencies. |
Reduce Cataract Risk
with Vitamin-Mineral Supplements
A study involving 744 persons
with an average age of 65 conducted by Cristina Leske, M.D., of the University Medical
Center at Stony Brook, New York, indicates that long-term use of vitamin and mineral
formulas reduces cataract risk as much as 31 percent. Long-term use of vitamin E
supplements reduced cataract risk up to 74 percent.
Natural Health Tip: We always emphasize the use of a
quality multiple vitamin and mineral formula such as Vitamin and Mineral Systemas
well as Energ-eyes from Whitewing Labs. You wont find
formulas like these anywhere else, especially as Energ-eyes supplies natural
mixed carotenoids, key eye health nutrients that are only now being recognized for
their role in maintaining eye health, in particular the retinal. Help for Oral Cancers
Do you smoke, chew tobacco,
consume alcohol or work in the adult beverage industry? If so, your risk for oral cancers
can be increased due to the synergy between tobacco smoke and alcohol. Use turmeric and
its active principle curcumin, an ingredient in DimiOxide from
Whitewing Labs.
Natural Health Tip: DimiOxide is a rich source of
turmeric. If you smoke or drink, use this formula daily (see page 11).

The author of Fresh Start, a pupil of Julia Childs cooking and
specifically, French cooking, believes in intense, big flavors. Her experience has taught
her fat does little to influence taste. She wrote this book, I think, for me. It is full
of great recipes that allow you to eat flavorful meals with reduced fat. The changes are
so minor that many times you dont notice. I especially like her barbeque sauce and
garlic spread.
This book provides over four weeks of menu plans, something most
cookbooks do not. She also offers helpful hints. For example, you like hamburgers even
though you know a turkey burger would be better for you. Make a change. Start by blending
turkey, 75% beef and 25% turkey, mix and grill. Even little changes such as these can help
you live a healthier, longer life.
I recommend this book to everyone who likes to cook and likes to eat
good-tasting food. Good cooking! |
