| Dear Health-Conscious
Friends,
Lately, I have received too many desperation letters from persons with various health maladies. Although conventional medicine focuses more on treatment than prevention, a fundamental tenet of traditional medicine has been prevention is best. With so much focus on magic bullets and genetic cures, what has happened to this common sense? Finally, major news magazines such as Newsweek are at last reporting that diet and other measures can be helpful in the prevention of cancer. In fact, we know from common sense and multitudes of studies that cancer can often be prevented or delayed for many years. We have both clinical and scientific proof, and we have the true life healing stories that also provide important and true hope. Andrew Grove, chairman of Intel, is a prostate-cancer survivor who "has toppled the standard food pyramid and built his own," reports Newsweek. "At the top are small amounts of healthful garlic and olives. On the base, he has a hefty five to 11 servings of fruits and veggies a day. His daily 'orange Julius' consists of orange juice, green-tea extract and soy protein. Christina Pirello, hostess of PBS's "Christina Cooks", survived her own bout with leukemia with brown rice, cabbage, tofu and beans, foregoing dairy or animal products, except for fish, reports Newsweek. This is not to say that conventional therapies do not have their place in cancer treatment. However, we can do so much better when we embrace the complementary healing and preventive powers of food and natural medicines. All of the foods mentioned in the Newsweek report-tomatoes, green tea, salmon, flaxseed, broccoli, red wine, soy, tofu, red grapes, and garlicare rich in phytochemicals and vitamins that perform important anti-cancer functions. You can take advantage of their natural protective powers by using the dietary supplement formulas discussed throughout this months issue of The Journal of Natural Health. This month is dedicated to disease prevention and complementary healthy strategies. It is important to take advantage of everything your doctor knows and then to supplement his or her knowledge with your own ideas, working together to prevent illness before it occurs. Weve given you some of the tools in this issue. Use them. Youll feel great, healthy and secure knowing that youve done everything possible to protect your health. |
